Where can I find out more about the courses I am interested in?

Are the courses conducted on-campus or online?

All our courses are conducted on-campus, offering students a hands-on learning experience in our state-of-the-art facilities.

Where is the Xela College of Design campus located?

Our college is based in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, providing a serene and conducive environment for creative learning.

What are the prerequisites for enrolling in your courses?

Each course may have different prerequisites. Generally, a passion for design and creativity is essential. Specific requirements can be found on each course’s page or by contacting our admissions team.

How long are the courses?

Course durations vary depending on the program. Typically, our courses range from a couple of weeks to a two-year qualification. Specific details can be found on the respective course pages.

Are there any accommodation facilities available for out-of-town students?

We do not have accommodation on campus, however you are welcome to contact our student services for more information on accommodation options around Mbombela.

Do you offer financial aid?

We do not offer financial aid, however, we do offer different payment options as shown on the course pages.

What qualification or accreditation will I get with my course?

Our Fashion Design Qualification, Interior Design Qualification and Visual Merchandising Qualification are all accredited. Our other short courses and workshops are not currently accredited, however you will gain invaluable knowledge and experience through these courses.

When can I enrol to start the course I am interested in?

Various courses have various start dates. Please contact our admissions office to find out when the next course date is or keep an eye on our social media.

Our Fashion Design Qualification has two intakes per year, January and July.

Is it necessary that I know how to sew?

All subjects in this course start at the basic level, so no you do not need to know how to sew. Please do understand that you will have to learn to sew. Any good designer knows their way around a sewing machine.

What if I cannot draw?

On this course we go straight back to the beginning and teach you how to draw using a ruler. This makes drawing logical and with practise anyone can learn to do a beautiful illustration

Am I too old to study fashion?

Absolutely not! Fashion is ageless and as long as you have a passion for fashion and a desire to learn you are an ideal student.

Our oldest Student is 63 years young!

Am I able to repeat a module if I do not pass it and what is the cost?

Yes, you will have to re-register using your student number.

There is a once off discount of 30% from original amount for the repeat of a module.

Are there opportunities for internships or practical experience during the course?

Yes, we encourage internship opportunities and hands-on practical experience is an integral part of our curriculum, allowing students to gain real-world exposure and build industry connections.

Can I find work easily in the fashion industry?

In South Africa our major fashion centres in Cape Town and Durban. The knowledge you acquire on this course is international and recognised worldwide.  In the later modules, we teach you about the marketing and the building tools needed to start your own business.

This means that finding work is entirely dependent on how determined and ambitious you are!
