XELA FASHION COLLEGE OUT AND ABOUT

OBIKWA

Some of our Second Years in their finery at the Obikwa May Day Meander

On Sunday 17th May our Second Year students strutted their stuff at the Obikwa Mayday Meander at the Lowveld Botanical Gardens wearing an array of hats and fascinators they had made themselves – a good time was had by all! The night before, two of our graduate students were invited to showcase their garments on the catwalk of the SA Fashion Week Nelspruit event and some of our Second Years got to experience the backstage happenings when they were invited to assist. “We learnt SO much” reports student Eulanda Matchegue. “The pressure was intense and it was great to be part of such a professional event”. They were thrilled to get a taste of what being a fashion designer is all about and participating inspired them to work even harder towards their international qualification. “The superior quality of the garments on show made me realize just how much I still have to learn” commented one student.

We were also thrilled to see that garments made by our talented students were also featured in the June issue of    Get It magazine. 2014 Graduates Nadia Vincent and Angelique Mazibuko of NVi Designs and Angelique Designs, as well as Second Year student Eulanda Matchegue all had items featured in the “Russian Doll” fashion spread. Eulanda has also modelled for an earlier issue of Get It magazine.  We love the talent we are nurturing at Xela Fashion College. Let’s face it, #Nelspruitfashionrocks and our students are going places.
